| Safety Issues - Homicide prevention |
Homicide Prevention As a point of reference, it may interest you to know the three leading causes of job-related deaths: The number one killer is motor vehicle fatalities (23.1% of all job-related deaths).
A startling statistic, however is that homicides have recently taken over the number two position (13.5% of job-related deaths), pushing machine-related injuries (13.3%) to the number three slot. (Homicide is the leading cause of death for women).
You may want to reassess your company's safety policies, particularly if you employ workers who handle money, work alone, work late or very early hours, or work in high crime areas.
HR Wire suggests using common sense tactics such as encouraging employees to dress conservatively (little or no jewelry), installing security systems, and discouraging employees from carrying cash while on duty unless absolutely necessary.
