| Making A Healthy Investment: 4 habits to boost your employees’ level of health |
#1 Insist on seatbelts
Wearing a seatbelt is the single easiest way to increase your personal life expectancy. Create a company culture that encourages the habit. Traffic accidents are the number 1 killer for people up to age 37 (See Gerson, Vicki. "Make a Change." Friendly Exchange). Keeping your employees safe is important to your profit margin, as it keeps your insurance premiums low and productivity high.
#2 Get 'em to eat their veggies
Something as simple as keeping the company refrigerator stocked with complimentary fruit, vegetables and juices may mean the difference between your employees getting in their 5-a-day or not. Keep a bowl of fresh fruit in the lobby or waiting area. Offer a fruit or vegetable snack at your next staff meeting.
#3 Help them reduce stress levels
Tim McDonald, manager of corporate health promotion for UAW-GM LifeSteps, suggests a daily regimen of relaxation which is as simple as giving yourself five minutes in a quiet room without talking to anyone, including answering the phone. "Breathe in as you count to four, hold your breath for four seconds, then let your breath out for four seconds." Concentrate on your breathing, nothing else. Try the same thing before the commute home.
#4 Make good health a company "policy"
You've taken a great first step when you take full advantage of all of the health and wellness benefits that come to you as part of our PEO services. Besides, letting us handle the little details gives you time for your own lunchtime walk or workout. Your employees are one of your most valuable business investments. Take care of your investment so you can reap the best return.
