| How to Identify that Outstanding Candidate |
As a PEO, we try to help our client's business grow. One of the best ways of doing that is to hire the best new employees. But sometimes, even when you do hire that outstanding candidate, the chemistry may not be right.
One way to determine if the employee will respond to your management style is to ask some probing questions about their attitude toward former employers. Here are some questions to ask that may give you some insights into that attitude:
- Tell me about the best manager you have ever worked for.
- What would your ideal boss be like?
- What was your least favorite manager like?
- How did you handle the things you did not like about them?
- Tell me about a disagreement you and your previous boss had. How did you resolve it?
- If I were your boss, what would be the most important thing I could do to support you?
Think about your management style and your strengths and weaknesses. Will this candidate accentuate your strengths and complement your weaknesses?
Will the management style you are most comfortable with work well with this applicant? Evaluating some of these factors can prevent an expensive hiring mistake in the interview stage. Give it a try!
