Defining the PEO: There's no simple explanation

George is a business owner who likes people to get to the point.  “If a salesman can’t tell me in one sentence what his product has to offer, I show him the door.”  If you want to watch one of our Sales Representatives squirm, you could make the same demand.  Then you’d have to get ready for one big run-on sentence.  A PEO can do so much for your business, there’s just not a simple explanation.

A PEO and its client company actually become co-employers.   We’ll use George’s company, White and Sons Construction (WSC) as a hypothetical example.  When a client company enrolls with us, all of the employees who used to work for White and Sons become our employees.  They still report to WSC headquarters for work, and are supervised by the same managers.  We simply become the employer of record.        

We then handle the payroll, the insurance and 401(k) administration, and provide advice on labor regulations, workers' rights, worksite safety, and employee wellness.  We write the employee handbooks, deal with discrimination lawsuits, unemployment insurance, workers' compensation benefits, and most other human resource issues that were formerly Mr. White’s responsibility.

White & Sons might employ our expertise in screening out undocumented immigrants, or they might make use of our drug testing service.  We would provide worksite safety training in an effort to eliminate some of the injuries that have caused their workers’ compensation premiums to go through the roof.  We'll help make sure that the necessary documents listing toxic substances he uses as cleaning solvents are on site so that WSC avoids potential fines.

In “short,” a PEO is WSC’s answer to continued business success.  But don’t ask a PEO to tell him so in thirty seconds or less.
